Wisynco conducts a voluntary withdrawal of Häagen-Dazs TM Plain Vanilla ice-cream products due to a non-compliance issue from a vanilla extract supplier.

Kingston, July 22, 2022 – Wisynco, the local Distributor of Häagen-DazsTM Ice Cream, wishes
to inform the public that it took the proactive action of voluntarily withdrawing Häagen-Dazs TM Plain Vanilla ice cream products from all points of sale in Jamaica since July 6, after trace amounts of ethylene oxide (ETO) were detected in two batches of the product.

General Mills, manufacturer of Häagen-Dazs TM, having proactively investigated the issue took the precautionary step of issuing a voluntary withdrawal of all affected batches of Häagen- DazsTM from all points of sale in Jamaica. Thorough investigations undertaken by General Mills into the root cause of this non-compliance issue indicated that trace levels of ETO can be traced to one ingredient (vanilla extract) provided by one of its suppliers. The levels of the detected substance marginally exceed analytical detection limits.

In view of this situation, Häagen-DazsTM Plain Vanilla products, including pints (473 ml) Quarts (946 ml) and minicups (95 ml) formats, with BBO/expiry dates between 05/07/2022 and 18/07/2023 were immediately withdrawn, effective July 6, 2022.

This voluntary withdrawal concerns only the products mentioned above. No other format or flavours of Häagen-Dazs TM, including other vanilla-based products, are impacted by this withdrawal.

At Häagen-Dazs TM, food quality and safety are top priority. Häagen-Dazs TM does not use ETO in any of its products, which adhere to all food safety regulations and strict standards in every market in which we operate, including Jamaica. We regret any inconvenience caused due to this withdrawal.
