Wisynco acquires 50% stake in Trade Winds Citrus

WISYNCO Group has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Tru-Juice maker Trade Winds Citrus, partnering two of Jamaica’s most successful family-owned businesses.

The firms announced the “strategic alliance” at a joint press conference held at the Trade Winds Citrus headquarters in Bog Walk, St Catherine, yesterday.

White Marl, St Catherine-based manufacturer and distributor Wisynco is owned by the Mahfood family, while the McConnells control Trade Winds — which, along with flagship product Tru Juice, is also behind the Freshhh Fruit Drinks, Squeezz, Calico Jack and Wakefield brands.

“This partnership will immediately offer broader availability for the Tru Juice brands locally and internationally as well as look at expanding the offerings for the brands in the future,” Trade Winds director Peter McConnell explained, noting that the intention of the new partnership is to significantly increase capacity and grow the business.
