WATA/Nuttall 5K ready for the road

PARTICIPANTS in the WATA/Nuttall 5K Run and Walk will hit the streets of Kingston today to raise funds earmarked for the refurbishment of the Nuttall Hospital. Caledonia Avenue will come alive as individuals and teams gather on the hospital grounds to compete for first place or just to have fun, all in aid of the restoration of the Gunter Wing and the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

Registration for the run closed on Wednesday, May 8. Runners and walkers will participate in a lively warmup session at 6:30 am before the race beginning promptly at 7:00 am. The weather is expected to be fair and the cool temperatures at that time of the morning will ensure great running conditions.

Traffic changes

Motorists will experience minimal inconvenience with few traffic changes on the route as there will be no complete road closures, according to race management team Running Events Limited. Roadways along the course will be reduced to single-lane traffic between 7:00 am and 8:30 am. Secure, ample parking is provided for all participants on the hospital grounds and surrounding properties.

The route

Anglican Bishop Rt Rev Robert Thompson is expected to join the participants on the highly anticipated course, starting on the Nuttall Hospital lawns. From there, runners will make their way along Tom Redcam Ave, turning right unto Arthur Wint Drive, left on to Mountain View Avenue, left on to Stanton Terrace and then follow a smooth trail down Old Hope Road and back into the hospital. There will be two water stops along the route with WATA and Powerade provided by Wisynco to keep runners hydrated as they tread the 5.3 km course.

Tessanne Chin will entertain the audience at the awards ceremony to be held immediately after the race on the lawns of the hospital. Awards will be presented to the top three male, female and team finishers in the Run and Walk categories.

The health fair gets under way after the awards ceremony. Now in its third year, the health fair is open to the public and will provide a range of health-related services free of cost.
