RECYCLING

Wisynco, along with coalition partners Lasco, Pepsi and Seprod launched a voluntary Bottle Deposit Return System (DRS) in March of 2019. The coalition partners have committed to fund the recovery system for plastic bottles. Funding from the Coalition flows to Recycle Partners of Jamaica (RPJ), a Registered Charitable Organization.

  • RPJ acts as the administrator of the DRS.
  • RPJ collects funds monthly from its funding partners, the bottlers, and distributors of food products manufactured in PET plastic.
  • RPJ’s governance ensures collaboration, transparency, accountability, and goal achievement, with fully auditable processes.
  • RPJ will fund the marketing, public awareness, and education and invest in infrastructure where necessary.
  • RPJ orchestrates payments to consumers via third parties and reimbursements to collection partners.
  • Multiple authorized independent collection partners will recover plastic bottles from consumers and on-sell or further process the bottles.
  • RPJ funds the build-out of collection points and supports operational costs where needed.
  • The model allows for multiple participants in the recycling process, encouraging other businesses and private individuals to get involved.
  • RPJ’s web site is www.recyclingja.com
  • Please contact RPJ for further details and updates, as terms and conditions are likely to change from time to time.

How are contributions paid to customers?

  • Consumers are now being paid J$50/kg (or an avg of J$1/bottle).
  • ALL PET (1) and HDPE (2) bottles are accepted, whether or not the manufacturer/ distributor is a partner to the RPJ.

Drop off locations:

Take your PET and HDPE bottles to any of RPJ locations to be recycled. Let’s put bottles where they should be and not in our gullies, on our streets or our shorelines!

PAST ACTIVITES

ECO CLUB

The competition was grown from a mere 15 schools in the 2016/17 school year to over 110 schools in the 2019/20 school year. The campaign was guided under the theme RECYCLING PLASTIC, FEELS FANTASTIC to emphasize having fun while making recycling a lifestyle and habit within the school community. In addition, this campaign encouraged the students and administrative body of participating schools and the surrounding communities to get involved.

ECO TROOPERS

Eco Troopers are Wisynco staff volunteers who are committed to the environment. Internally our Troopers lead the charge to increase environmental awareness and encourage staff members to recycle at work and home.

RECYCLE CHALLENGE

The campaign aimed to assist persons within the organizations in becoming more environmentally conscious and making recycling a habit in their daily lives. Through our partnership with these companies, we were able to spark a conversation and a call to action around proper recycling in the hopes of influencing our nation.
