OAKS day is dubbed as ladies’ day, when the ladies come out in their finery and wear their splendid hats, much to the delight of the gentlemen. The feature race on the day, the Jamaica Oaks for the Hilma Veira trophy, showcases the best three-year-old fillies in the land going over the distance of 10 furlongs. The Jamaica Oaks is also the usual third Classic of the racing season.
The toast of the ladies after the Oaks, sponsored by WISYNCO through their brand product Bigga soft drinks, was the Fitzroy Glispie-trained, Shane Ellis-ridden Raeven Renae. She displayed the strength of a female and most of all great stamina to come from the back of the field to win in the end by four expanding lengths.
